Surprised the usual suspects haven’t been pointing the racist finger at this, “they all look the same” etc.

The journalist wont select the pictures or even write the often misleading headline attached.
To be fair there are a lot of Mendy's
At least it wasnt Moussa Dembele as there seems to be a whole team of them knocking about

It's the picture editor's job to sort this, and fuck ups are much more common than you might expect because of deadline pressure.
Sister mag of one I used to work for had to pulp and entire issue (print run of 100k) because a front page story about a newly-dead big wig had a picture of the wrong person (same name, but not dead). Very fortunate to have caught it before it went out to WH Smiths....

Similar also to when ITV confused Ainsley Harriott with Lenny Henry during the news report about the latter getting knighted.

I always liked the story of a beard hipster type trying to sue some publication for using his likeness without his permission in a story about all hipsters looking alike.
Only to find out later it wasn't a picture of him.

I suspect it's all just very, very lazy journalism rather than racism.
Remember when Lost Prophets singer Ian Watkins was charged with paedophilia and some papers used photos of Steps singer Ian Watkins in their articles? Both very white, both produced very bad music. Only one of them guilty of being a horrific human being.
